Medicare Supplement Insurance- including Bellefontaine, Marysville, Columbus and Central Ohio
Does this sound familiar? As you approach age 65, suddenly your phone is ringing off the hook with calls from salespeople and your mailbox is jammed with solicitation letters.
It’s annoying, distracting, but above all, very stressful. Turning 65 shouldn’t be so difficult.
We make it easier for you. Instead of increasing your stress, we’re a friendly face that takes the time to ask about your situation, explain Medicare Supplement benefits and figure out which plan is the best option for you based on your needs and budget. No hard sell, no pushing, just an easy conversation.
What is Medicare?
Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD).
It consists of two parts, Part A- Hospital Insurance and Part B- Medical Insurance. Like most health insurance plans, Medicare has out of pocket costs that you must pay. For example, both Part A and Part B have a deductible.
What is a Medicare Supplement plan?
Medicare Supplements are insurance plans (sold by insurance companies) that are designed to pay for some of the health care costs that Medicare doesn’t cover, such as the Part A and B deductibles.
How does Medicare and supplemental insurance work?
A helpful way to think about Medicare and Medicare Supplements is this- imagine Medicare as a pie with a piece taken out. A Medicare Supplement helps put that piece back in.
Do you have to have supplemental insurance with Medicare?
No. You can have Medicare without a Medicare Supplement. A Medicare Supplement is an optional policy. Your specific situation will help determine if a Medicare Supplement is right for you (another good reason to talk to a trusted advisor who has experience with Medicare). However, the majority of our customers have found it very helpful to have a policy that helps pay for some of Medicare’s out of pocket costs.
What is a Medigap plan?
Medigap is just another name for a Medicare Supplement.
What is the difference between Medigap plans (Medicare Supplement) and Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Supplement plans are insurance plans, sold by private insurance companies, that work with original Medicare (Part A & B). Medicare Advantage plans (often called Part C or MA plans) are also offered by private insurance companies, but Medicare pays these companies to cover and administer your Medicare benefits.
So a Medicare Advantage plan takes the place of original Medicare and works much like private health insurance under age 65, with deductibles, copayments and often prescription drug coverage.
Many Medicare Advantage plans use an HMO or PPO network, so it’s best to check the network of providers before making a decision between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan. There’s nothing worse than discovering that your doctor or local hospital doesn’t participate and you end up with out of pocket costs you hadn’t budgeted for (it DOES happen).
What is the best Medicare Supplement insurance plan?
The best Medicare Supplement insurance plan is the one that fits your situation and your budget. There are 11 standardized Medicare Supplement plans available. Insurance companies can pick and choose the plans they wish to sell (with certain limitations), so the best one for you may also be limited to what a company offers. This is another reason why speaking with a trusted advisor is a good choice- you can review options to find the best one for you.
