Carrie Reynolds of Alan Galvez Insurance at the Relay for Life Celebrity Dinner fundraiserLogan County Relay for Life Celebrity Dinner Fundraiser

On April 15th, 2015, the Logan County Relay for Life hosted a “Celebrity Dinner” from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Huntsville Event Center, the third year for the Celebrity Dinner fundraiser. 2015 marks the the 15th year of the Relay for Life in Logan County. To date, through the extraordinary efforts of volunteers and neighbors, Logan County has raised over 2 million dollars. Carrie agreed to serve as a Celebrity Waiter- she has volunteered all three years.

Celebrity waiters sold tables in advance of the event, and then "earned" tips throughout the night by serving their tables (such as getting utensils, refilling drinks and getting desserts). Whitmore House catered a lovely dinner, which was followed by a live auction where many valuable prize baskets and gifts were auctioned off.

The theme of the night was "Western" and Carrie certainly got into the spirit with her "Jessie" costume from Toy Story. The night wrapped up with a live auction. It was a wonderful event and our office was excited to be able to participate. Total proceeds raised topped $6,000 and will go to the American Cancer Society to help fund research into ridding this disease.

Downtown Business Partnership (DBP) Customer Appreciation Day

Downtown Bellefontaine was hopping on June 2! As part of the  DBP Customer Appreciation Day, we gave away popcorn and cotton candy from 11am-2pm- approximately 200 bags of popcorn and 150 sticks of cotton candy. It was so much fun and amazing to see the sidewalks of downtown Bellefontaine so busy and packed with people. The beautiful weather certainly helped.

Celebrity Dinner Benefiting Relay for Life

On April 8th, 2014, the Logan County Relay for Life hosted its second annual “Celebrity Dinner" as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Carrie participated as a Celebrity Waiter (dressed as The Insurance Goddess of course), waiting on tables- one of which was purchased by the agency and occupied by staff.

Carrie worked very hard to earn "tips" for the cause, collecting nearly $400.    The entire event earned over $10,000 for the Cancer Society.

It was a fun event and we're pleased to have helped raise funds for Relay and cancer research! Here's a few fun pictures:

Alan Galvez Insurance sponsors 2 families for Christmas with toys, household items and foodProviding Christmas for 2 local families

A few years ago, our agency decided to abandon the traditional office gift exchange.

Instead, we figured we could make more of a positive impact in our community if we adopted some families who needed a liitle help in providing Christmas for their families.

It was the best decision we ever made.

We adopt two families- always one with young children and the other an older couple. Because elderly people often struggle with having a nice Christmas too.

The joy in the staff's face as they do the shopping and wrapping of gifts is amazing. Very, very proud of the members of our team that take on this project and help provide an awesome Christmas for 2 deserving families.

Christmas is definitely about giving to others.

It was an amazing party and we were thrilled to see so many of our customers, as well as lots of people downtown. It was our way to say thank you to everyone for their continued support!

Alan Galvez Insurance in downtown Bellefontaine is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The agency located at 134 West Columbus Avenue is co-owned by Alan Galvez and his daughter Carrie Reynolds. Galvez has been in insurance for 42 years and Reynolds for 17 years.

Alan Galvez Insurance is an independent agency that handles claims for Motorist Mutual, Erie Insurance, Buckeye State Mutual, and Progressive Insurance.

The agency’s number one goal is customer service. The business accomplishes this by being very approachable, having a good sense of humor, helping customers understand insurance, and inviting clients to drop by whenever.

Galvez got into insurance back in 1971. He was unemployed and had been out of the Marines for about a year. A local veterans’ service officer pointed him in the direction of a local life insurance agent. Galvez interviewed for the job and has been in the insurance field since.

Carrie got into insurance after graduating from Wittenberg University in 1996. Her father invited her to join him at the office and if she did not like the job, she could move on.

Galvez says that when he was a teenager he thought it would be great to one day have a business in downtown. He got the opportunity to and says he likes the location because he can walk to anywhere in downtown and he enjoys talking to the people on the streets of downtown.

The agency also has three other employees: Maria Galvez, Office Queen and Galvez's wife; Jana Harrigan, Customer Service Expert; and Melinda Smith, Customer Service Specialist.

The business even has two resident cats: Crystal and Roxanne.

The agency is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-12 and 1-5 and on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9-12.

Alan Galvez Insurance can be reached at 592-4871 or at their website.

Local media coverage about agency's role in downtown Bellefontaine revitalization efforts and reorganization of Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership

Business owners look to re-energize downtown (re-printed with permission of The Bellefontaine Examiner)

A group of downtown business owners have begun reorganizing a business association and a Friday event aimed at drawing customers to the local stores, restaurants and service providers is a first step in that direction.

The brainchild of Jack Reser and Alan Galvez, who have been spearheading the effort, Friday's Customer Appreciation Day will allow more than a dozen businesses to connect with residents through sales, free food offerings and drawings.

"This is a nice way for people downtown to say 'Thank you' to our customers," Mr. Reser, who owns Lee's Comfort Shoes, said. "If it weren't for the way the local community embraces our businesses, we wouldn't be here today."

The event actually began two years ago as a way for Mr. Galvez to give back to his customers and the community as a whole.

"We wanted to do something on our own to show our appreciation to the community," Mr. Galvez's wife, Maria said. "Sidewalk sales have kind of died out over the years, so we decided to cook out."

And with talks of reorganizing downtown businesses — either under the banner of the Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership, an existing entity that has not been heavily active in recent years, or under a new banner — Mr. Reser and the Galvezes decided to get more businesses involved.

"When they decided to revive the Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership, they decided to make this into a community event," Mrs. Galvez said.

During the event, which officially runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (but individual business owners can set hours for their events), numerous businesses will offer promotions or free food to guests.

At Galvez Insurance from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., patrons can get hot dogs, ice cream sundaes and cake, while Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, 110 N. Main St., is offering hot dogs, and many businesses like Lee's Shoes are giving away cookies along with storewide sales.

At the Main Street Marketplace, building owner Jason Duff has invited Jennifer Weiland of the West Mansfield business JaNellie's Gourmet Bakery to give away cookies from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while businesses such as the Lock Shop and Mad River Knife & Supply will have drawings for items.

Other businesses such as Smith's Jewelers, Belle Printing, Court House Square, Tanger's Furniture, Peach Tree Books & Gifts, The Insurance Center, Unseen Elegance and the Education Station are also participating.

And as the activities take place, members of the cast of Windmill Productions' Our Town will mill about the streets performing short scenes, production director Kris Swisher said. And at 1 p.m., the Holland Theatre will have a free showing of the Dr. Seuss movie, The Lorax.

This event, which is intended to reinspire the sidewalk sales of old, will not be the last though, the business leaders say.

In fact, a group is planning to meet the morning of Friday, June 21, to reorganize the association and set up an agenda.

"When the old Downtown Business Association gave way to the Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership, it worked well for a while, and then it didn't," Mr. Galvez said. "Our goal is to set up a new organization to change the DBP.

"This is our first real event as a new organization and we tried to make it an all-encompassing thing. I hope it all comes together and we can pull it off."

Mr. Duff, who has driven much of the redevelopment of downtown through property investments, said he is encouraged by the business owners' initiative to reform an association.

"The effort recently to reinvigorate the DBP is very important," he said. "I see this as the first of many more events that involve downtown businesses."
